and the other project....

1990 EP82 Starlet GT, 5efhe+t conv, ex garreth27s. turns out its got the frontmount kit from my original Gt on it and quite possibly the boot lid? what goes around comes around hahaha ;) bought it cause it was cheap and I've wanted a project like this for quite a while now, feel it has a lot of potential. plus it has a sunroof. i love sunroofs.

basic ideas im throwing around is

keep 5e, half cage, MRP adjustables, lightweight 15s, nitto semis, straight through 2.5" exhaust to chrome/stainless 2.5 tip (no barrel muffler just pipe), full interior strip, race seats anti lift kit etc etc brake upgrade (ae101 brakes fit i believe? memory may be wrong) and just track day it, casual drag days etc

swap back to 4E, forge, T25 turbo, full cage, 4 points, race seats, LSD, Full brake upgrade, plus all of above and race All CLassic Japanese Race Series

keep 5E, do all of above two bar turbo, rape it, blow it, forge it, then turbo high compression :axe: race in whatever series lets me do that (havent looked into this too much, whatever guys like barry manon etc race in (does he still race? out of the scene))

so yeah either way its going to be a ton of fun :P

so far I've stripped the interior, begun removing sound deadening, broken something in the driveline (to be continued) replaced cut off shifter assy, fitted TRD gearknob, replaced steering wheel, removed radiator for half size alloy unit, glued up faulty idle valve, sat and drunk beer while looking at vehicle. very productive

after its first clean

interior part way through sound deadening removal and after shifter + wheel fitted

boss kit (turns out its the wrong one and too long/column covers dont fit but it brings the wheel closer to me which will actually work out well, so im keeping it lol

Got a panhard rod off ryan, mounted that and roughly adjusted it. dodgy fitted air filter  put it up on my 1st world axle stands and removed the stuffed driveshaft on the passenger side. will be fitting a new one hopefully tomorrow and will hopefully fit the new brakes I got off steve8 at the same time

tightened onto silicon hose FTW, actually holds well!

Image

my mean axle stands for the moment, looks like im parting the thing out for scrap currently hahaha

been too lazy to take photos so haven't updated this, basically upgraded brakes to AE101 single pots, fixed driveshaft, replaced engine mount, removed sound deadening, changed oil, changed exhaust manifold/turbo/fitted HKS silent hi power exhaust system, sourced semis, fitted to it, bought and fitted MRP adjusties, took it for a blat round the block a few times and parked it up. have since changed direction on this build so i bought another car.....

Image

which is gregs one with the rebuilt motor etc etc

now changing wheels/tyres/suspension/panhard rod/brakes/bonnet over to gregs old car and and vice versa with the stuff from his! figured it had more potential pace wise due to lighter weight/engine/turbo setup. should be at a track day next month! seats turn up in 3 weeks then save for cage

swapped everything to the new starlet, fitted a 10psi spring and going to put it on a wideband to make sure fuellings ok with the current setup :D got new seats! waiting on rails which should hopefully turn up before a trackday im taking it on next month, getting wheel aligned then its good to go! progress this week was slowed due to the subaru developing a severe diff knock on saturday night so i pulled it out, inspected wheelbearings, driveshaft, half shafts, crown wheel and pinion. couldnt find shit, apart from very dirty diff oil. reassembled to recheck the fault and the faults dissapeared! weeeeeird...... took a vid of it on a short power run on the motorway though :D

click on the image to watch, not that impressive but plenty of fun for me :)

bought a wideband and checked fuelling at 10psi - mint! had it re wheel aligned as i found the camber setup was way wrong due to me not setting the camber down at the hub first, causing some nasty tyre rub, glad i found it! will upload photos tomorrow and hopefully a video as im taking it to hampton downs for the avo to do some testing! should be interesting :)

went to an uncles club meet and had a hoon on wednesday, found it has chronic overheating issues (3 laps and its well boiled over), decent guard rub due to the tyres being too wide (not too worried doesnt seem to be wearing them) and found a decent boost leak which once fixed woke it up! keeps up with h22a EG civics now, just got to improve my lines and have more balls in/through the turns! had an awesome afternoon and got some things to improve now so back into the garage it goes. currently running a ep91 dual core radiator but i think the fact the turbo is so close and the screamer points sorta at the bottom tank ish area is probably my cause but will cure it all by fitting a triple core half size and plumbing the gate back in. photos and videos of the suspension rub and the day! took my mate Andrew Waite from the NZV8 utes/ supertourers for a hoon he thought it went great for what it is :P

final run, just starting to get a bit of confidence, skips a section in this vid dunno why, can see steam coming from the overflow on the RHS as i pull into pit lane at the end haha :/

Long time no talk

made up ducts for the radiator to help with overheating, cut out the front bumper, sourced and fitted a GI bonnet, mounted passenger sparco seat, had wastegate plumbed in, tried to get a solution to the clutch issue with no success, and bought some genuine forged cp035s for it

taking it out for round two at hamptons next month!
