Sorry it's not a starlet :lol: but still a toyota. This is my 1990 MR2. Not really a common car to see modified which I spose is a good thing. Mine came from the factory with the leather/alcantara seats, targa tops, manual, turbo, cruise control, factory subs+amp etc - it has pretty much every option you can get for an MR2. Here are a few specs. There are more than likely things I've forgotten to add - I find new things everytime I tinker with it

Not long after the Piha meet, the engine decided to let go. Bottom end bearings are stuffed and it is currently off the road. I have recently sourced a new motor to replace mine for the time being. The plan is to have the car drivable while my motor gets a rebuild and then swap them out when that's done.

In the meantime, some wheels just so happened to fall into my hands. They're SSR type-c's and they measure in at 17x7 at the pointy end and 17x8 at the fun end. Same size as my current wheels but lower offset (so they don't sit inside the guards as much)

Tried them on and loved the fit although guards will need rolling - that or adjust camber or height....yeah nah

Didn't like the look of silver on my car so sanded them down, masked them and sprayed on the primer

Went for black spokes with green/blue pearl (same colour as car) through them and kept the polished lip

Unmasked them and loved the result. Now to make the car fit the wheels.

I've also picked up a 7" indash lcd screen and a 2bar Greddy Boost guage...I intend on using most of that scale with the rebuilt engine

Motor arrives next weekend and then the process of swapping the two starts. Hopefully be done in time for Jspec drags in May and Drifting @ slipway (wellington) in June/July. Watch this space for updates

fuck i'm tired! finally got to the workshop with my motor around midnight. gonna do cambelt and waterpump before it goes in the car (much much easier). no need to change the clutch as mine is damn near brand new. anything else i should do while it's out? don't really wanna spend too much on this motor as it's only there to get the car drivable..it's my old motor that calls out to my wallet :lol:

Something I'd wanted to replace on the car a while back was the intercooler. The one in the car now is a Trust/Greddy one and quite thick (100mm from memory) but it used to heatsoak real bad after a coupla fullboost runs making the car painfully slow.....now obviously because of the location of the engine, I can't get a nice big front mount :down:

soooooo......

I bought this kit off trademe and it cosists of a 600x300x76 intercooler core with custom made piping for an mr2.....I don't like the piping much so I'll probably redo it with proper mandrel bends or polish it up or throw it at small children or something.

Boot will need to be modified slightly (Hole cut into the floor and hole cut into the bootlid) and then I'll make some ducts out of stainless steel sheet so that air HAS to flow through the intercooler rather than swirling around in the boot. Coupla 12" electric fans on the way as well to help things along. I should probably get a bigger turbo to justify this :lol: maybe a gt35xx of some sort....mm.... hopefully by the next update the car will be going......

Oh....got a seat too....Bride lowmax Vios..... :D :D.....:lol:

Long time no update. Scored me a short shift kit for $20 (may possibly be one of the famed flyingdick...i mean...brick ones :lol:) This should help me keep up with hondas when they hit vtec and stop time with their incredible speed boost. Motor is out of the car and everything that needs to be swapped over to the new motor is ready to be swapped over (fark i hope we didn't miss a thing :lol:)

Also found a few things that are broken....like my lovely stainless downpipe that is more cracked than a papatoetoe hooker. The bottom half of the exhaust is flat from the car being so low and scraping everywhere and the carbon fibre muffler exploded ages ago due to flames.....short story is, I need an entire exhaust..awesome - NOT. Went shopping and got me some 3" piping. I'm gonna remake the exhaust. Don't really have time to change the design of it as the car HAS to be running etc in the next week. Gonna have to shop around for a downpipe as well due to time constraints....anyone know a place that does good priced off the shelf 3" downpipes that vent WG to atmo?

Thanks to my lovely gf I now have a cambelt kit for the mighty 3S on it's way to me (cheers Karyn :prayer: ). So once that's here (hopefully thursday/friday) The new engine will be ready to go in the car. Gonna try and do that this weekend and try and have it started over the weekend. If anything goes wrong I've got all next week off so can spend a few more sleepless nights and days there. That's about it really. Got exactly 2 weeks to get the cambelt done, motor in car, exhaust remade, car certed, wof and reg.....mad rush :lol:

Long time no update.

I got bored of the green so started painting it white - I'll finish it once I'm done with the engine but this is what it looks like now.

This is what the car's engine looks like now. Still running the 2.0L bottom end with shot peened rods, ACL bearings, custom baffled sump and a ported head with 272 cams and a custom built 600hp turbo

This is my spare engine that I'm rebuilding. It's a 2.2 stroker setup and once the bottom end is built I'll use the head off the 3sgte and go from there :)
