Craig's Glanza V

Post by Boosted » Fri Jan 15, 2016 3:29 pm

Well after many years i've finally got myself into the starlet world. Since we are living out in the country and have a young son we needed to replace our CRV with something smaller. So my wife is driving my Carib while i've got a Starlet.

So it's a 1996 Glanza V. It has a factory LSD but other than that just a standard old starlet. It has a fmic, HKS bov (not sure if it's genuine or not), pod filter and a 5Zigen exhaust.

I got it needing some work but of course the seller 'forgot' to mention a few things

Was told the handbrake didn't work. Me and a mate went to sort it out and discovered both rear calipers and sliders were seized (right locked solid). Rebuilt the calipers, got new pads then discovered the discs we got wouldnt fit the ABS ring and had the wrong offset. So we will take in a old disc to compare options. Probably will have to replace the cable as well

While doing this we discovered the waterpump was leaking. Seller obviously forget he had to top up the water all the time. Ordered TGP cambelt kit, waterpump and seals from Mark @ Manawatu Toyota.

The drivers door lock had been screwdrivered so swapped drivers and passengers.

Had a shitty alarm with no remotes, a turbo timer which didnt work and stupid pedals, all which got ripped out.

Has had a slight fender bender and the mounts have broken off the front lights, so will replace. Plus old owner decided to paint eyelids on them :tard:

Plans are once these things are fixed, i'll get some new tyres, replace gearbox oil and make a custom intake behind the intercooler.

So still haven't finished the cambelt and waterpump on this bitch

Got more seals during the week. Have now got all seals - front main, cam, oil pump, spark plug, dizzy, cam cover as well as cambelt, waterpump, tensioner and idler.

Finally got the crank pulley and sprocket off, and have replaced the seals. Just got to grab new timing gear off Stu, and wait for my mate to come and time it up. Owned it for 3 weeks now and driven it twice :(

Currently working out what joiners and pipe I need to move the air intake in front of the radiator, and will get a half size radiator when I gots the money

So with the motor out I decided I had to pull the box off to check everything. Clutch wasn't super bad but pressure plate and flywheel had heatspots, and rear main was leaking. So chucked a standard Exedy kit in there with TGP rear main.

Also replaced oil pump seal, chucked new timing gear and waterpump on and timed her up with help from my mate. Then decided I would chuck the motor in today. Is only bolted in, will finish it off during the week.

Today I finished doing the rear brakes. Now has new rotors, pads and rebuilt calipers. Handbrake still doesnt work  suspect it needs new cables too.

And took it for a test drive, all went well so took it home.

Can now finally start working on tidying up it. Going to paint that damn bonnet white again.

OK so have had a bit of progress on this thing. Firstly it has a new nickname from my wife - Satan . I don't think my wife thinks highly of it

So I had an issue with gearbox oil not staying in the gearbox. Replaced seals and all seems to be good so far. Also replaced the abs sensor today so no more abs light!!!

Also finally got a second spotlight.

Plans next are: New handbrake cables, sandwich plate to fit my Defi's, 2 new tyres, tie rods/wheel alignment and sort out some better front brakes. Maybe a civic radiator if i'm feeling rich

So have had a bit of a spending spree on satan this week

Have put RE003s on the front in 195/50/15, ordered a new left handbrake cable (hopefully will only need one!) and new front brakes. Have gone with new Bosch Blue Line pads, we are keen to see how these perform. Also got new rotors.

Also did a dodge job of plumbing back the hks bov  I want to do a new intake so this will do until I sort that out.

Image

Have also got some spray painting gear, so will do some practice and paint my bonnet :)

Got new indicators today, brand new Taiwanese ones  don't fit very well, but better than the painted ones held in by cable ties and duct tape

Also fixed PS leak with new copper washers on the pump

Still looking for a new turbo bonnet if anyone has one!!
