I recently did the Port road sprint where I came dead last
Turns out the problem at port road was the G4 ECU cutting revs due to low oil pressure , so I drained the oil and decided that lots of sparkly bits wasn't likely to be a good sign .
I dropped the sump off and as expected the bearings are fubared and the crank will need a grind at minimum , very likely need a new oil pump too , tomorrows job is pulling the motor out and inspecting things .
Upon inspection at the engine guys , the list of stuffed bits is as follows , crank , pistons and oil pump , so the new plan was to put a standard 5EFHE in with my turbo etc and doing the last hill climbs for the year.
Well the cunning plan of putting a standard 5EFHE in my car and seeing how long it lasts with boosting failed before it even began . The motor I went to pick up from the wreckers turned out to be a 4E someone had replaced the 5E FHE with in the car then I went to pickapart and in the last 2 days they have removed the car I was going to get the motor out of .
So the new plan is to fit the old 4E turbo motor the car had in it before the race motor
Have been busy today , been looking for the lightened 4E flywheel and have come to the conclusion that I probably sold it a few years ago , so removed the standard one off a spare motor . The clutch plate had rusted onto the flywheel so it was lucky that Greg from MP Autoparts had said he was happy to clean up the flywheel today if needed , huge thanks to him.
I also swung by Customworks to see if I could get my baffled sump back, luckily John the boss was there , unfortunately he gave me the bad news that the block is joining the crank and pistons on the worn out heap so the 4E might be the race motor for some time.
At the workshop I dragged out the old 4E race car motor and started prepping it , so it now has a standard turbo sump glued on as the baffled one seems to have warped after the CV damage repair and the block has a coat of silver paint on it to make it feel like a race motor.
Tomorrow I'll take the old head off and put the ported head on with the ARP bolts , put the best waterpump etc on it , then get it back in the car so it's ready for a retune next week so I can get to blairgowie road sprint next weekend so no pressure there.
It will be interesting to see what the 4EFTE does on the dyno with the GTX turbo and E85
